Motorcyclist Left for Dead

A Middlezoy motorcyclist who was knocked off his bike and left for dead has spoken of his miraculous escape from Westonzoylands "killer road".

Adam Pimm had his life-long dream to be an engineer shattered when he was involved in a collision with an overtaking car, and has been told there is a 50/50 chance that his leg will have to be amputated. He is just 21.

Had it not been for the chance passing of an off-duty paramedic, a policeman and a surgeon, Adam would have died from his horrendous leg injuries at the scene.

Speaking exclusively to the Mercury, Adam who recently secured compensation for the injuries which virtually destroyed his right leg, pleaded with drivers of all vehicles to kill their speed.

"Even in Middlezoy we can hear the cars tearing past - from the other side of Westonzoyland sometimes. "They are just crazy" he said.

I just want everyone to slow down because it's a killer road with ditches on both sides, so many people have been killed and hurt there, I don't want any more.

It should have been a day of excitement for Adam as he rode home from a job interview.

As he made his way past the airstrip, a car overtaking on a corner came careering towards him.

"I can remember the car lights in front of me and the next thing I know is picking myself up off the floor." He said.

"All that was going through my head when I got to the side of the road was what my dad was going to say about my motorbike.

I was lucky because a paramedic and the policeman happened to be passing and between them they stopped the bleeding. Without them I would have died.

Adam lost more than four pints of blood in the five minutes after he was hit before undergoing a four-hour operation to save his leg. After a month in hospital, he began to rebuild his life.

I used to love go-karting and that's why I wanted to be an engineer - because of the engines, he said.

No one will take me on because I'm more likely to fall over and cause injury. I fell over when I was at college and broke my leg again since the accident.

The Mercury has backed attempts to slow traffic on Westonzoyland Road by petitioning Somerset County Council as part of the How May More campaign.

Adam who was only 16 at the time of the crash, is now married and expecting his first child in Mat.

That is giving him something to look forward to after battling through years of pain.

He added, "I want to thank the Personal Injury Specialists Bond Pearce who helped me get through this all and my friends and family too"

The female driver of the car was given a community service penalty for driving without due care and attention.
