Elderly pedestrain injured by scooter.
A pensioner who was knocked down by a scooter suffered two fractures.
Edith an eighty year old lady was stepping onto the pavement having crossed over a local road with her shopping at a zebra crossing. The driver of a sccoter knocked Edith to the ground and did not stop. She was left sprawled half on and half off the pavement. She was lucky to escape with a fractured wrist and broken femur.
Despite her ordeal Edith made a miraculous recovery. She was admitted to hospital for two months and later to a rehabilitaion nursing home but she has recently been able to return to live in her own home.
Edith's injuries will mean that she will need to have support for her personal care and daily chores.
Edith recovered £18,000 for damages for her pain injury and suffering and an additional £9,500 for the losses and expenses that she had incurred. Rather than seek a lump sum for her domestic care and home help costs, Edith recovered a periodical payments of £11,200 a year. The periodical payments will continue for as long as Edith lives and will increase with wage based inflation.
This means that she will not have to worry that her compensation might run out if she outlives the life expectation predicted for her and will also not have the financial worries of investing and managing a large lump sum.
