Criminal attack leaves young man severely burnt
A young man was severely burnt after an incendiary device went off in his home.
While Craig watched the television on an ordinary evening the unimaginable happened. An incendiary device was thrown through the front room window and went off setting the young man alight. He rushed from the room and shouted to his housemates to call for the fire brigade and get out of the house. He then ran cold water in to the bath and climbed in.
The fire brigade treated the severe burns to his hands and arms while they waited for the ambulance to arrive to take him to hospital.
At hospital he was given morphine and his burns were wrapped in cling film. His tongue and throat were swollen, the pain was excruciating. He was transferred to a specialist unit where he had to undergo surgery to his arms and hands. He had suffered deep partial burns to his arms, hands and left ear, superficial burns to his face, head, neck, stomach and lower left leg. Craig was unable to sleep due to recurring nightmares about fires and would have panic attacks that the window by his hospital bed would be broken at any moment.
Craig's career has been affected as he can no longer carry out the duties as he had done before the incident. Neither could he carry out any of her personal care. The pigmentation deficit is very noticeable with discolouration to his arms, hands, face, neck and head which has left him very self conscious in public place.
Before the accident Craig was an outgoing young man who enjoyed the outdoors and loved his career. Since the incident he feels that his independence has been lost and that he no longer has any certainty of the future.
Craig approached Bond Pearce's Criminal Injury team to help him thought the CICA process so that he can concentrate on rebuilding his life.
