Employer's failure results in worker suffering a hernia
An employer who failed to provide training paid £4000 in compensation when a worker suffered a hernia.
Joe was employed in a tyre depot as a level bias cutter. When some of his colleagues called in sick he was asked to spend the day working in a different area of the depot called the 'rack and spray'.
He had never had any training to use the machines in this section. He began to move racks of tyres to and from the machine in which they were sprayed. Through the course of the day Joe began to develop a pain in his groin area.
By the time he arrived home from work his groin area was incredibly sore and swollen. The following day he consulted his doctor who confirmed that he had suffered a hernia as a result of the lifting. Joe is still awaiting a repair operation.
Bond Pearce investigated Joe's claim and were able to secure him £4,800 in compensation.
