Doctor's mis-diagnosis of meningitis leaves 3 year old deaf

The repeated mis-diagnosis of meningitis caused a young child to become permanently deaf.

When Simone became ill her parents were very concerned. The doctor who examined her said that there was nothing seriously wrong. He said to monitor her at home for 48 hours and give her some medicine to reduce her temperature.

During the night Simone grew worse. Her temperature was very high and she had begun to develop a rash. They decided to go to the emergency department at the local hospital.

When they got to the hospital the medical team still failed to diagnose Simone correctly. It wasn't until a further 24 hours later that she was confirmed to be suffering from meningitis.

Unfortunately by this time Simone had become very ill and as a consequence lost her hearing in both ears.

Bond Pearce's Clinical Negligence team investigated Simone's case. They instructed three medical experts, a GP, an infection expert and an Ear Nose and Throat expert to help prove the claim. They were able to secure £250,000 in compensation for Simone.
