Bus Driver fails to slow down causing a passenger to fracture her spine

A bus driver failed to slow down over a speed bump causing a passenger to sustain a spinal injury.

Nicola boarded her usual bus to the city centre. The bus took its normal route along a road lined with speed bumps. The driver of the bus went too quickly over one of the bumps jolting all of the passengers. Nicola was thrown in to the air. She landed awkwardly in her seat and injured her back.

She attended hospital and it was confirmed that she had fractured her spine. Following the accident Nicola was in a lot of pain. She had to have help from her husband to carry out many personal tasks which meant that he had to have time off from work.

Bond Pearce's Road Traffic Collision team fought Nicola's case. The Defendants argued that Nicola had been sitting incorrectly. They said that she already had a serious pre-existing back injury and so should not have been travelling on the bus. Neither of the allegations were true.

Bond Pearce were able to secure Nicola £13,500 in compensation which included for the time her husband spent caring for her.
