Illness caused by toxic food
Betty worked as a supervisor for a bakery. Part of her job involved tasting the produce. One particular day she was asked to taste a suspect apple turnover. It had no unusual smell and so she took a bite. When she swallowed she experienced a vile aftertaste and a burning sensation in her mouth. Immediately after she was violently sick.
She developed a severe headache, dizziness and chest pains. In the days following the incident Betty's asthma grew worse. She was forced to seek specialist treatment at hospital.
Her asthma continued to be a problem and Betty continues to suffer with poor health four years after the incident. This has cost her a supervisor's job within the factory.
Bond Pearce's scrupulous investigations found the apple turnover to have contained an ammonium-based cleaning chemical and proved that the chemical was responsible for the deterioration of her asthma. The company admitted liability and we were able to secure Betty £55,000 in compensation.
