Wisdom tooth operation leaves patient with “ugly” scar

After visiting her dentist Leah was referred to a dental hospital to have her wisdom tooth removed. After the procedure the right side of her face was very swollen. She went home to recuperate. The following day her face had swelled even more so she contacted the hospital who told her that swelling was to be expected.

Two days later the swelling had become even worse so once again she contacted the hospital who said that she should attend the accident and emergency department at the general hospital.

She was seen by at least five doctors. They told her that she would need an emergency operation as she had an infection. They said that the tooth should never have been removed as the area around the tooth was infected. The medical team said that Leah should have received antibiotics following her original tooth extraction.

Following the operation Leah had to have four drains in her face and had to undergo a further tooth removal. The drains left her with a large scar on her neck and jaw area which she feels is very ugly and will be visible for the rest of her life.
