Amputation of toes following crushing accident at work

Barry was responsible for removing the lead from large moulds which were used for making boats. Lead normally fell out of the mould in small pieces but on this occasion the lead didn't break up and a large piece of lead fell on his foot crushing his toes. Barry had not received proper or thorough training for the job and as a result his stance was incorrect and his feet were in the wrong place. Following the accident His toes became black and gangrenous and as a result they needed to be amputated. Whilst Barry had steel toe capped boots on they weren't designed for this type of weight so were of no use in preventing the injury. Barry brought a successful claim against his employers.
