A speeding car which jumps a red light severely injures pedestrian
A revving engine was all that Connor could remember hearing before he was struck by a speeding car. At a pedestrian crossing Connor, 19, waited for the traffic lights to turn red before he started to cross. On reaching the second lane of the three lanes he had to cross he heard a revving engine. Connor started to run and had almost reached the other side when he was struck. The car that hit him was driving in excess of 50 miles per hour and had travelled straight through the red light.
Connor's leg was severely broken and he had a nasty wound. The injuries were such that it was thought he would lose his leg. He underwent emergency operations including his leg being pinned, a muscle and skin graft. Since the accident he has endured several more operations to help repair the break and the severe muscle damage. Connor hasn't walked for over two years as he continues to have trouble weight bearing on the injured leg. He gets around assisted by his parents and the use of a wheel chair and crutches. His medical advisors are now considering with him a below the knee amputation.
The driver and his insurance company initially said that he had been driving at 30mph and that the lights had been green. They argued that Connor had been responsible for the accident. The specialist team at Bond Pearce had acted quickly in getting evidence and were able to present them with witnesses who testified that the lights had infact been red and that the driver had been driving at an excessive speed. Bond Pearce successfully settled this case. This specialist expertise and swift action made the difference between winning and losing Connors case.
