Plant driver receives £20,000 compensation for head injuries

Luke Jarvis suffered head injuries after JCB equipment was operated incorrectly.

Mr Jarvis was delivery a float to a private household, on arrival the gateway of the premises was not wide enough to drive the lorry through.

He phoned the house where a man later appeared, which he assumed was one of the contractors on site, the man suggested that he would use this old JCB which was in the grounds to get the float off the lorry.

Mr Jarvis was worried that his lorry might be damaged so offered to assist in moving the float; he put chains around the bucket of the JCB and extended the arm to its maximum.

Mr Jarvis then climbed onto his lorry and realised that one of the handles on the JCB needed to be lowered, he asked the guy to lower the handle and on doing so caused the boom arm to slew round and strike Mr Jarvis to the head causing him to fall 7 feet to the ground unconscious. He was taken to hospital.

Since the accident Mr Jarvis now suffers from severe headaches, memory loss, mood swings and taste and smell has been impaired which have massively affected his quality of life.

He also can no longer drive as his DVLA has been confiscated due to medical grounds which has left him unemployed.
