In one Merseyside case, he tracked down former Cammell Laird workers from the 1960s to win a settlement worth more than £150,000.

Another, an ex-railway worker, was exposed to asbestos as he worked uncoupling old railway carriages. The joints were insulated with asbestos and every time they were undone the worker would be showered in asbestos dust. He too has been diagnosed with mesothelioma.

Another form of industrial disease that can greatly affect a sufferer's life is industrial deafness.
